UNCW Aikido Club Celebrates it's 10 year anniversary this month

In September 2006, with the help and guidance of Richard Price Sensei, John Lothes started the UNCW aikido club on UNCW's campus to continue to share the art of aikido with the greater Wilmington community. Since the inception of the club we have moved off campus to be able to share aikido with the greater Wilmington community as well. Since the start of the club 5 students have gone on to get their black belts, as well as 5 staff and faculty members have received their black belts. We continue to stay committed to sharing aikido with ALL the UNCW and Wilmington community.

Gishinkan Dojo would like to Congratulate our newest Black Belt promotions!!!!!!!!!!

2/1/16:

Richard Price Sensei - Rokudan

Jessica Gaffney: Our Newest Black Belt!

Congratulations to Jessica Gaffney on her successful shodan test at Yudansha Kai/Spring Camp in Roswell, Georgia in May.

It's Official

The Aikido World Alliance, our association's parent organization, has been officially recognized by Hombu Dojo. Hombu Dojo, located in Tokyo, Japan, is the world headquarters for aikido. It is also the dojo where O'Sensei taught until his death in 1969. This is a major recognition for the AWA. It also means that we can train at Hombu Dojo should we find ourselves in Tokyo! Congratulations to everyone in the AWA for this honor.
